How to manage your Listing’s Media

This article describes how to manage your Listing’s images and video for best results.

Overview: #

As a business owner or listing owner (also referred to as a listing author), your media consist of images and video files. In this short article we look at how to understand your image sizes, and also what the best practices are for your video file.

Image Files (How they work): #

First up, we only accept two types of images, .png and .jpg. PNG images are normally associated with your business logo as they allow for a transparent background.

What’s more, we convert your images to .webp. This image format is basically created specifically for websites. A website friendly image type if you will. Webp protects your images in that it can’t be downloaded by visitors, via the normal “right click” and “save as” functions, as with .jpeg and .png images.

That brings us to the second process. Image Compression and Image Sizes. In order for websites to better handle large quantities of images, we use lossless and lossy compression techniques. It’s basically a process of compressing an image, making it a tad bit smaller in weight, without any major image quality loss. We then go ahead to trim off any exif data, which is the data that your phone or camera adds to your image automatically.

That brings us to another important aspect, which will also relate to the remainder of the article. Image size. Image size plays the biggest role in your images displaying in an acceptable manner. If you are not familiar with image sizes, then you will find it interesting that most of todays phones, and cameras, takes incredibly lard images. From 2500px by 2500 px and upwards to the 5000s and 6000s. Therefore, we automatically resize your uploaded images to a size of 1400px by 1400px. From there we create the different image sizes that we further need.

If your images are not displaying correctly with major indifferences, it’s probably due to size. Therefore, we try to guide you below, with better image sizes. For any major issues, other than what this article covers, you will need to get in touch with us.

Your business listing consists of three different image sections/types, as follows:

Your featured image is a single image that best represent your business. This image shows up in search results, either in list view or grid view. Its the cover image that represents your listing across the site. The best image size for your featured image is 1450×1450 px.

Please note that our platform automatically resizes your images to fit into their assigned positions. As displayed below, often they need to be large, and other times they need to be very small. This wont affect most of our listings and any small discrepancies is beyond our control.

Gallery images consist of 5 individual images, displayed in a slider at the top of your listing. The recommended size for your listing gallery images are 1450px by 1450px. It is not advised to upload extremely large images, as it can lead to images displaying incorrectly or even upload errors.

The best size for your business logo is approx. 500px by 500px. As displayed, your logo are carried over to different sections of our platform. In case you do not upload a Logo for your listing, our default logo will automatically be applied.

The way our platform display your business/company video, is via a URL link to your YouTube channel. This is for your benefit, as the video will load faster, and in case you already have your video monetized. If you don’t have a video URL, simply sign up for a free YouTube account and follow the instructions to upload your video. Then, copy your uploaded video URL, and paste it into its corresponding field of your listing.
